Celebrating 125 years of academic excellence, discovery, and global impact, the University of Birmingham - ranked among the world’s top 100 universities (QS 2025) - marked the milestone with a landmark event at its award-winning purpose-built campus in Dubai International Academic City. Attended by more than 2,000 guests and held in the presence of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, the celebration highlighted the University’s rich heritage and its growing role within the UAE’s dynamic knowledge economy. Guests enjoyed a vibrant cultural programme alongside interactive exhibitions showcasing the University’s achievements, from early scientific breakthroughs to current leadership areas such as Artificial Intelligence, health and wellbeing, and sustainable finance.
As the first Russell Group, global top 100 university to establish a campus in Dubai, the University of Birmingham Dubai has rapidly become a centre for advanced learning and research. Key initiatives include the launch of Dubai’s first PhD programme in Artificial Intelligence, strong industry partnerships that deliver real-world experience for students, and the establishment of three specialist research institutes: the Centre for Inclusion Studies, the Health Systems Research Centre, and the Sustainable Financial Innovation Centre. Together, these institutes address critical regional and global challenges through collaborative, multidisciplinary research.
